JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - This is a news release from the Jones County Fire Council.
The Mississippi Forestry Commission, by request of the Jones County Board of Supervisors, has issued a burn ban for Jones County effective immediately.
Burn bans prohibit any outdoor burning of any kind.
The burn ban will remain in effect until conditions warrant the lifting of the ban. Anyone found in violation of this burn ban may be subject to citations issued by the Jones County Sheriff's Department.
According to the Mississippi Forestry Commission, Section 49-19-351 of MS Code of 1972, as amended, states that any person who knowingly and willfully violates a burning ban is guilty of a misdemeanor and may be fined not less than $100 and not more than $500.
