Steve Spurrier Retires at age 70

"All I can say is that I'm going to try to coach the way I've coached in the past, and if it ends up not being good enough, then so be it," said South Carolina Head Football Coach Steve Spurrier.

Spurrier announced his retirement Monday evening at the age of 70. He reportedly told the teams of his plans and informed them that an interim head coach will be announced Tuesday.

His college coaching career will end with a record of 228-89-2 combined in 26 seasons at Duke (three), his alma mater Florida (12) and South Carolina (11).

Spurrier's Gamecocks lost to the LSU Tigers 45-24 on Saturday, which put South Carolina at 2-4 on the season.
