ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) - A historic building at Jones County Junior College has undergone a $1.5 million renovation and has been named in honor of a former student who has supported the school for 50 years.
A ribbon was cut Saturday to officially open McClellan Hall. It's named for Mike McClellan, a Hattiesburg bank president and former standout JCJC athlete who served on the school's Board of Trustees for 25 years.
The building will house the college's recruiting and marketing departments. It also includes a media room.
"(Mike McClellan) was our Board chairman for many, many years and his best quality is leadership and he does it with ease and calm," said Jesse Smith, president of Jones County Junior College.
"Having a building named after you is truly humbling, truly, truly humbling," said McClellan. "And it's not basically because of what I did. I had a lot of people really support me in the faculty and the staff," he said.
The building was originally built in 1948.
Saturday's ribbon-cutting was part of homecoming activities on campus.
