PETAL, MS (WDAM) -

An 11-month, 650-mile odyssey through three states is over for a lost and lovable little Texas dog who was found in Petal and reunited with his family Wednesday.

The four-year-old pug named Chips went missing from his owner's farm near San Antonio last Thanksgiving.  Two days ago, he was found in a Dollar General Store parking lot and taken to the staff at Panther Pet Hospital, who discovered that he had an implanted microchip.

They contacted the family, who drove all day from the Lone Star State to pick up their pooch.

"Now that we're here and we see him, it's hard to put your mind around the whole situation, it's crazy," said Mak Becker, Chips' owner.

"He was very worth (the drive)," said Joni Harrel, Becker's mother. "It was just unbelievable this story, this whole story."

"This was such a cheerful, what a heartwarming story, and we're so happy to be able to reunite these folks," said Christine Gibson, veterinarian and owner of Panther Pet Hospital.

No one knows for sure how Chips got all the way from San Antonio to Petal, but Gibson said he was in good health.
