Jones County man injured in two-vehicle accident on I-59

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A two-vehicle accident on I-59 near Exit 99 in Jones County involving an 18-Wheeler and a passenger vehicle left one Jones County man injured Friday morning, October 2.

At 7:36 a.m. emergency medical responders and rescue units from Powers and Glade Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the accident involving a Dodge Charger and a Tidewater Transit 18-wheeler out of Kinston, North Carolina.  Apparently the 18-wheeler had slowed suddenly for traffic when the Charger ran into the back of it.

The male driver of the Dodge Charger was transported to South Central Regional Medical Center by EMServ Ambulance Service with what was believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

One lane of I-59 remained closed for approximately 45 minutes while rescue, accident investigation, and vehicle recovery operations were performed.

The accident remains under investigation by Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Also responding to the accident was Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan McKenna.
