Sign ordinance violators will be cited in Laurel

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - This is a press release from the city of Laurel's Public Relations & Civil Service.

Mayor Johnny Magee wants to alert citizens that city of Laurel code enforcement officers will be on the lookout for violations of the city's rummage/garage/yard sale sign regulations and will begin issuing citations effective immediately.

The fine of the sign ordinance infraction could cost you $100.

Yard sale sign regulations are the same in both residential and commercial districts.

It is a violation for signs to be affixed to any trees, utility pole, traffic sign, fence or street marker on public right-of-way.

Yard signs cannot be located on public property, including parks, and must be removed within 48 hours after the end of the sale.

Ground-mounted signs are not to exceed eleven by seventeen inches (11" x 17") in size. For more information or to find out more about what is allowed, please contact the city's Inspection Department at 601.428.6438.
