HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The City of Hattiesburg and the Hattiesburg Fire Department have started testing fire hydrants in the city Wednesday morning.

The testing will continue until November 30.

The hydrant testing notice will be posted on every Water Bill issued to the Residents and Businesses of the City of Hattiesburg area.

"What we've been trying to do over the last couple of years is to make businesses and residents aware that we'll be coming out to test the hydrants for defects," said Fire Chief Paul Presley. "We flow the hydrants until the water is clear. "we do the testing every year for the rating Bureau purposes."

According to Presley, some people do actually complain about the brown water.

"So what I tell them is, to turn the water on in the bathroom or sink and let it run for a few minutes and it should clear right on up.
said Presley. "We do want to maintain our class 4 rating that's why we do hydrants every year."

If you have any questions regarding the hydrant testing, please contact the Hattiesburg Fire Department at 601-582-3311.
