LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - National "Night Out Against Crime" is Tuesday, Oct. 6 and in Laurel and area residents will gather at Mason Park to celebrate the occasion.
On Tuesday, Mayor Johnny Magee's proclamation in support of this special night was presented to members of the Laurel Police Department in the rotunda of city hall.
The Laurel Police Department sponsors this annual event and will provide book bags filled with school supplies to hundreds of area children.
There will also be free food provided for the public and live entertainment.
Tyrone Stewart, chief of the Laurel Police Department, said that it is important for police to build relationships with the communities they serve.
