Sheriff: Jones County couple's argument leads to stabbing

Frank White Merrill Frank White Merrill
JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

This is a news release from the Jones County Sheriff's Department

On Thursday, Jones County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a complaint of a stabbing on the 500 block of Magnolia Road.

The victim reported her estranged husband, Frank White Merrill, 33 of Laurel, and she were arguing over a deposit on a rental property as well as their ongoing fight for Merrill to grant her a divorce.

The victim became afraid after Merrill threatened to kill her.  He left the residence and the victim went to the Sheriff’s Department to file a domestic disturbance report.

Later that same day, Merrill returned to the property and attacked the victim, stabbing her in the shoulder as she was trying to fight back.

Merrill fled the scene when deputies and medical personnel were called, however he returned during the night, puncturing all four tires and busting out the windshield of the victim’s vehicle.

On the evening of Friday, September 25, 2015, deputies received information regarding the location of Merrill.

They came upon the Lee Street address in Laurel, along with units from the Laurel Police Department, and was told by the homeowner Merrill had run towards the back door.

In searching the home, Merrill was found crouching down inside an interior closet.  He was taken into custody without incident, and transported to the Jones County Adult Detention Center.

Merrill is charged with Domestic Violence-Aggravated Assault.  His initial appearance at Jones County Justice Court will be Monday, September 28, 2015 at 3:15pm.
