LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Hundreds of people gathered at Gardiner Park in Laurel Saturday to help raise money for heart disease research.
The annual Jones County Heart Walk brought in funds for the American Heart Association.
About 400 runners and walkers participated in the 5-K event.
"All the money raised in Mississippi actually stays in Mississippi, so funds raised from the Jones County Heart Walk will stay in this state and go towards research," said Cassie Cox, senior development specialist for the American Heart Association. "We're funding 13 researchers out of Jackson right now, so big things (are) happening in Mississippi."
The Heart Walk brought in more than $40,000 for the American Heart Association.
