Lamar County Sheriff's Department investigators are working to piece together an early morning shooting that injured a man.
Just after 1 a.m deputies got a call from Forrest General Hospital about a male suffering from a gunshot wound.
"Officers went to the hospital and gathered information and then went back to the scene where it happened and processed it," Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel said.
Rigel said the shooting happened in the 200 block of Hartfield Road.
"The 20 year-old victim said he was pulling into the apartment complex and saw a black male that walked up to his vehicle and then started shooting," Rigel said. "He was hit in the lower torso area, and apparently he laid down in the car while the person was shooting."
The driver then drove himself to Forrest General according to Rigel.
"Whoever it was shot the vehicle at least eight times with a 9 mm," Rigel said. "The victim wasn't able to give any description other than just a black male."
Rigel said there were no witnesses to the shooting that they knew about but asked if anyone knows anything or saw anything to contact the sheriff's department.
According to Rigel, at last check the victim was still at Forrest General where he was being treated for the injury that appeared to be none life-threatening.
