One person was killed in a Wednesday night shooting in the Sandy Hook community of Marion County.
The body of Curtis Franklin Owens, 57, was sent to Jackson for an autopsy.
"Deputies responded to a welfare check call in the 200 block of Old Highway 35 South around 9:15 p.m. and found a deceased male inside the residence," said Marion County Sheriff's Department Investigator Jamie Singley.
Police tape marked off two sections of the narrow two lane road as deputies searched for evidence with flashlights.
"The male suffered from what appears to be multiple gunshots," Singley said. "We called in the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations Crime Scene Unit to help process the scene."
Singley said the department is getting help from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations and the District Attorney's office in the investigation.
"We have to process the scene and have the crime lab technicians do their part so we will be able to gather more information," Singley said.
At this time authorities do not have any suspects, and could not comment about other details due to the ongoing investigation.
