Plans are underway to make Homecoming at Jones County Junior College a special event. The weekend of activities begins Friday, October 9. The college will begin Homecoming festivities by recognizing three JCJC alumni, Chris Hill of Laurel, Mike McClellan of Hattiesburg/Heidelberg and Ann Strickland of Ellisville, at the Honor Alumnus Dinner. This 6 p.m. event will be held at the Ronald E. Whitehead Advanced Technology Center. The 60-year reunion for the 1955 JCJC class will meet in the Banquet Hall of the C.L. Neill Student Center for a 6 p.m. dinner and the JCAHS class of 1955 will meet at Life Church in Laurel for their reunion dinner at 6 p.m. The 50-year reunion reception and dinner for the 1965 Ellisville High School class will meet in the Tullos Suite of Jones Hall at 5 p.m. on Friday, October 9.
Homecoming Day, Saturday, October 10, is slated with numerous activities for a day of fun for all ages. Events will begin at 9 a.m. with a reception for alumni and friends at the Terrell Tisdale Library. At 10 a.m. the JCJC Homecoming Parade will wind through the streets of Ellisville and the campus. The Homecoming theme this year is, "Maroon and Gold, and Rock and Roll!" The parade will feature floats made by the student body incorporating the theme, as well as the Maroon Typhoon Marching Band, JCJC cheerleaders, Touch of Gold, and of course, the 2015 Homecoming Queen and her court.
At 10:45 a.m. the public is also invited to join the Jones family for a pep rally following the parade in front of the C.L. Neill Student Center. At 11 a.m. the 50-year reunion luncheons will honor members of the Ellisville High School and JCJC classes of 1965. The reunions will be held in the C.L. Neill Student Center for class members and their guests.
At 11:20 a.m., a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to officially open the newly remodeled McClellan Hall will be held, honoring the building's namesake. Mike McClellan, a Heidelberg native and current Hattiesburg resident became a JCJC Bobcat in 1962 when he joined the football team. He served on the JCJC Board of Trustees for 25 years, eight of those years as President of the Board. McClellan also served as President of the Mississippi Board of Community and Junior Colleges. McClellan was inducted into the Mississippi Community College Sports Hall of Fame in 2013 for his many accomplishments.
Tailgating under the Tents begins at 11:30 a.m. at the tennis complex at the Sim Cooley Football Field for $5 per person. Please make reservations through the JCJC Alumni and Foundation Office at 601-477-4145.
