LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Laurel city employees are not getting a raise.
Council members voted this morning to delete language from next year's budget that would've given employees a 3 percent raise.
Laurel Mayor Johnny Magee pushed for the raises, but Tuesday's vote did not uphold the request.
In Tuesday's vote, which was 4-3, comes after weeks of debate over the 2016 fiscal budget.
Council members were up against a deadline to approve a budget by the Sept. 15 deadline.
In their haste, they forgot to take out the pay raise for city employees and Wednesday's vote corrected their oversight.
