Two arrested in Perry County armed robbery

PERRY COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A Sunday morning armed robbery at a Perry County service station landed two people behind bars.

Christopher Crabtree, 34, of Jackson, and Crystal Dunn, 35, of Hattiesburg were both arrested around 3 a.m. after a tip from the community led authorities to them.

“Around 12:30 this morning a white male entered Taters Exxon at the corner of Highway 98 and 29 and robbed the cashier at gunpoint,” said Perry County Sheriff Jimmy Dale Smith.

Smith said officers arrived on scene within minutes of the robbery.

“After looking at the surveillance video it was determined the suspect had left in an older model two door car, and after processing the scene, sheriff’s deputies and members of the New Augusta Police Department began to patrol the area,” said Smith.

Smith said around 3 a.m. a tip was called in and said the suspect was still in the area.

“Myself and deputy Griffin spotted the vehicle headed north on Hwy 29, we stopped the vehicle and began a felony takedown of the suspects,” said Smith. “Cash and merchandise from the store were found in the car and on the male suspect.”

According to Smith, Crabtree is a previously convicted felon, who is now charged with armed robbery, and Dunn, was charged with accessory before the fact of armed robbery. Both are currently held in the Perry County Adult Detention facility.

"I am very proud of the dedicated officers we have here in Perry County, the coordinated effort that was put forth to resolve this quickly illustrates what I have been trying to accomplish in our county,” said Smith. “It was a joint effort that paid off, and I appreciate the officers that I work with and pray Gods protection over them all," said Smith.
