Delta State mourns, plans candelight vigil for professor killed Monday

Cleveland, MS (WDAM) -

This is a news release from Delta State University

The campus lock down following a fatal shooting on campus was lifted late Monday night after authorities confirmed the suspect had been located.

Campus offices will open at 10 a.m. today as faculty, staff and students mourn the loss of loved professor Ethan Schmidt. Classes remain cancelled. Counseling services will be offered for campus with group sessions at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in Jacob Conference Center. Counselors from other public universities in the state will be on campus to assist. Counselors will also be available in the residence halls for students.

The University sends its deepest thanks to the many federal, state and local law enforcement officials, emergency management personnel and others who responded to Monday's tragic situation, as well as to all of the institutions, people and groups who offered support and condolences.

A candlelight vigil to honor the life of Professor Schmidt will be held at 7 p.m. in the quadrangle on campus and is open to the public.
