WIGGINS, MS (WDAM) - This is a news release from the Stone County Economic Development Partnership.

Wiggins, MS—The Stone County Economic Development Partnership – Chamber Division announced today plans for a BBQ Competition scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Blaylock Park in Downtown Wiggins.  Stone County BBQ & Blues is a Barbecue Competitors Alliance (BCA) sanctioned event.  More than fifteen Pit Masters and their teams will be competing for approximately $4,000 in prizes and an opportunity to qualify for Grand Championship status and moving on to compete in the 2016 Jack Daniel's World Championship in Tennessee and an invitation to the American Royal Invitational in Missouri.  Winners are awarded points in multiple categories as well as prize money.

In addition to the opportunity to watch professionals compete; back yard BBQ aficionados are welcome to join the competition. "You might be the next great BBQ Champion of Stone County, so join us" said Dayna Reyer, Chairman of the  SCEDP-Chamber Division.

What goes well with BBQ?  Blues music of course.  Regional Blues legend T-Bone Pruitt takes the stage at 11 a.m..  Other favorites, Cary Hudson and Thomas Jackson will perform 1 – 4 p.m. from the newly built stage at Blaylock Park.  This is a family friendly event so bring the kids along  to enjoy activities including face painting, drawing, zoo animals, and fun jumping experiences.   BBQ plates, drinks and desserts are available for purchase.
