USM Football Calling all Fans

HATTIESBURG, MS -

HATTIESBURG – The USM Golden Eagles dominated in today’s win against Austin Peay. The Eagles blew out the Govs 52 – 6.

However, Head Coach Todd Monken was disappointed in the poor attendance at the Rock. “I didn’t come here to be the head coach for that kind of showing today by our fan base,” Monken  states.

Compared to the record breaking crowd size at the home opener against Mississippi State, it was considerably quieter.

Monken questions whether the fans will be consistent and made a unique comparison. “Is our fan base going to be a thermometer or a thermostat? Are they going to be a part of this to the top together or not?”

The Golden Eagles have made it clear that this is a new year and they have big plans for this season, “But we need everybody.”

Monken says this is what he bought in to, “The Rock and our fan base showing up and supporting our team that fought like hell for three years to get to this point.”

USM takes to the road for the next two weeks, but they return October 3rd to face North Texas at 6:00 pm in the Rock.

Southern Miss looks to add a Conference USA tournament title to its regular season crown this week in Biloxi. The Golden Eagles (39-15, 23-6 C-USA) open tournament play against UAB on Wednesday at 4 p.m. inside MGM Park.
