Hattiesburg residents participate in 9/11 ceremony

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

About 150 people were in attendance at the Hattiesburg Fire Station #1 for the annual 9/11 memorial ceremony. 

A bell sounded at 8:46 a.m. to signify the hijackers deliberately crashing into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. 

The bell rang again at 9:03 a.m. to signify another another hijackers plane crashing  into the south tower.

The ceremony is held in memory and in honor of all the victims and heroes of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the flight that crashed in Pennsylvania Sept. 11, 2001.

"History teaches us more lessons than the present does, so days like this help us to remember that we are where we are because people like us allowed us to be here," said Lt. Col. Glen Clubb Battalion Commander for the 1-305 Armor Battalion at Camp Shelby. "Their sacrifices put us where we are right now both in uniform and out of uniform."
