UPDATE: Bond set for Jones Co. caregiver arrested for abuse of a vulnerable person

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A Jones County woman's bond was set at $1,000 Thursday in Jones County Court.

Jasmine McInnis, 23, of Collins, has been arrested for abuse of a vulnerable person, announced Attorney General Jim Hood today.

McInnis is facing charges of one felony count of abuse of a vulnerable person. The charges stem from an investigation by the Mississippi Attorney General's Office Medicaid Fraud Unit. The investigation revealed that McInnis physically abused a patient while working as a direct care worker within a facility that provides care to the mentally challenged in Jones County.

McInnis was booked into the Jones County Adult Detention Center and is awaiting her initial appearance. If convicted, she faces up to 20 years in prison. As with all cases, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

This case is being investigated by Jake Windham and prosecuted by Special Assistant Attorney General Kathy Parker of the Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
