The majority of us are familiar with the concept of the "American Dream." It's what America's founding fathers created for future generations to come: success, wealth and prosperity. But, not all fortunes are traced back to American citizens. In fact, 13 of the richest families in the U.S. can trace their riches back to foreign-born ancestors who moved to America in hopes of putting their good ideas to use.
Most of the immigrants came from Europe, but few traveled farther to the U.S., such as from China and Iran. These men went on to create chemicals, invent blue jeans and craft beer and cheese. Their fortune has passed on from generation to generation and most of the men's descendants work for the companies they originally established.
