Center for Military Veterans, Service Members and Families Open House Sept. 2

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The following the is a news release from The University of Southern Mississippi

The University of Southern Mississippi’s Center for Military Veterans, Service Members and Families will hold an open house Wednesday, Sept. 2 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. to kick off the fall 2015 semester and welcome its students back to the Hattiesburg campus. The event is also an opportunity for students who are veterans to learn more about what the Center and USM have to offer them and their families.

During the open house, staff from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs office in Jackson, Miss. will be present to assist veterans attending USM and those living in the Hattiesburg area with issues related to their military service and benefits.

    The Lumberton Board of Aldermen voted to end the suspension of the police chief and fire the city clerk during a special-called meeting Thursday night.  On Monday, WDAM reported that the Lumberton Police Department said Chief Shane Flynt had submitted his resignation and that Phillip Ducksworth was serving as the interim police chief.
