UPDATE: MDOC offenders that escaped work detail now in custody

Update: A pair of offenders that escaped a Mississippi Department of Corrections work detail in Florence on Aug. 31 are now back in custody.

Nathan Joe Brooks was arrested by members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and Hattiesburg police Tuesday morning at Robertson Place Apartments in Hattiesburg.

Members of the Hattiesburg Police Department and Forrest Count Sheriff's Department arrested Rico Roberts late last week in Hattiesburg.

Brooks was convicted of uttering forgery in 2013 in Forrest County and was sentenced to five years probation. Roberts was convicted of escaping jail in 2013 in Forrest County and was given five years on probation.

The pair are now back in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

According to the Mississippi Department of Corrections, offenders Nathan Joe Brooks, MDOC#122453, and Rico Roberts, MDOC#185823, left from their work site in Florence around 9:45 a.m. Monday. 

Brooks was convicted of uttering forgery in 2013 in Forrest County and was sentenced to five years probation. Roberts was convicted of escaping jail in 2013 in Forrest County and was given five years on probation.
