“Our investigation revealed that there were five individuals in the SUV, Gerrod shot the victim, “Skateboard,” while the vehicle was in motion along Poplarville-Baxterville Road, causing the vehicle to wreck,” Pearl River County Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said.

The four are all housed in Pearl River County, where they will make their initial appearance later Friday.

“Marion County Sheriff’s Department put a lot of time and effort to assist us in this investigation,"Tucker said. "Without their assistance, this would have been a much more difficult case to solve, so we really appreciate their efforts."

The Scene:

Around noon Wednesday, a passerby spotted a one-vehicle accident on Poplarville-Baxterville Road just off Spring Hill Road in Pearl River County.

"Deputies responded to the scene and noticed it was more than just an accident," Tucker said. "There was other evidence that suggests it was more than just a traffic accident."

Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage said the victim has been identified as Brandon Penry Jr., 31, of Columbia. Penry went by the nickname "Skateboard" and died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to Turnage.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Unit was brought in to process the scene, according to Tucker.

"We believe that the incident occurred between 11 p.m. Tuesday and 1 a.m. Wednesday, and we believe the two people, Howard and Daniel, know information," Tucker said.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Department is assisting with the investigation.

If you have any information regarding the shooting, contact Pearl River County authorities at 601-795-2241.
