Jones fire officials urge caution when burning outdoors

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Jones County fire officials are urging residents to be careful when they burn anything outdoors.

Dry and windy conditions have put the county at an elevated risk for fire and county officials are urging caution when burning.

"During the day and through tomorrow evening at least, the temperatures are going to be near 90, low humidity and winds from 8-14 miles an hour, according to to the Weather Service, so those conditions create conditions that are conducive to a wildfire to escape," said Dan McKenna, Jones County Fire Coordinator.

It may be early next week before the Pine Belt receives any significant rainfall.
