HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A semi-trailer heading southbound on Highway 49 near Helveston Road ran over a masonry drill bit Tuesday afternoon, puncturing a hole in the fuel tank.
The tank leaked diesel fuel onto the highway
An MDOT crew working on the road was able to flag down the truck driver to pull him over.
According to fire officials, less than 40 gallons were spilled onto the roadway.
MDOT officials are requesting motorists to take caution in the area. One lane is open to motorists at this time.
Hattiesburg Fire Department and Forrest County Emergency Management responded to the scene to supervise the cleanup.
