LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Dozens of people in Laurel Saturday morning ate some homestyle pancakes to help some homeless pets.
They visited Applebee's restaurant for Southern Cross Animal Rescue's Pancake Day.
It was held to raise funds to help pay veterinary bills for rescued cats and dogs. Organizers hoped to bring in about $1,000 during the event.
"(People attending) are getting two pancakes, more if they want, a couple of sausages and a drink," said Cindy Renz, a board member for Southern Cross Animal Rescue. "They also know that they are supporting our shelter and what we do there. They just have a big heart to come here and support us."
Southern Cross Animal Rescue is currently caring for about 150 homeless pets.
