JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - This is a news release from the Jones County Sheriff's Department
On Saturday, Jones County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the 200 block of George Boutwell Road in Laurel for a burglary.
The homeowner came home and saw that two handguns and an air conditioner were missing from the residence.
After speaking with the victim, an eye-witness came forward identifying someone resembling the victim's grandson, Cody Pitts, 26 of Ovett, carrying a duffle bag from behind the home, then getting into a gold colored SUV that was determined to be owned by Pitts' mother.
Pitts was questioned soon after and told authorities he was not in town at the time of the burglary.
The eye-witness then positively identified Pitts as the one carrying the duffle bag as well as the SUV that was at Pitts' mother's home.
On Friday, Pitts was again interviewed and didn't give the same recounting of the day's events.
He was then taken into custody and charged with Burglary.
Judge David Lyons with Jones County Justice Court set Pitts' bond at $25,000.
