PERRY COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Preliminary autopsy results of a body found last Thursday night in a Perry County cornfield have been returned to the Perry County Sheriff's Department.
"The state medical examiners preliminary autopsy report shows there was no indication of any foul play, however we are waiting on toxicology reports," said Perry County Sheriff Jimmy Dale Smith.
Last Thursday, August 13th, sheriff's deputies received a call from a farmer in the Janice community about a body he found in the back of his cornfield.
Deputies responded to the farm located off Bob White Road and set up a crime scene.
"Our guys worked the scene, and at this time we don't know what happened to the victim, but there is no foul play suspected," said Smith.
Authorities identified the victim as 42-year-old Perry County resident Luther Garner.
"There is a trail that he had cut, or made through the woods at the field where he would walk to his mother's house," said Smith.
Smith said the body had been there for two or three days, and that it was being sent to the Mississippi State Crime lab for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
