Hattiesburg Clinic hosts grill-out for law officers

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hattiesburg Clinic and one dozen other Pine Belt businesses teamed up Thursday night to show their support for some local law enforcement officers.

They hosted an appreciation grill-out at the Forrest County Multi-Purpose Center.

Hattiesburg and Petal Police departments, along with the Forrest County Sheriff's Department, were invited to attend.

Officers were served hamburger meals and were given free T-shirts. Organizers also personally thanked many of the officers for their service.

"We really appreciate what they've done for us today, the meal they cooked for us, just all the thanks, everybody is talking to us and thanking us," said Lt. Jon Traxler of the Hattiesburg Police Dept.

"We felt that there needs to be some way that we can draw the community together to honor our policemen, to let them know that blue lives do matter and we wanted to have an event that would show that appreciation," said Doug Johnson, chief cardiovascular officer for Hattiesburg Clinic.

Johnson said organizers are thinking about making this an annual event.
