CAMP SHELBY, MS (WDAM) - More than 6,000 soldiers and airmen at Camp Shelby have just concluded a historic training mission that began about one month ago. The first Exportable Combat Training Capability (XCTC) exercise wrapped up Tuesday.
"(It was) the largest exercise of its type," said Col. Greg Michel, commander of Camp Shelby.
It involved 4,600 National Guard troops from the state's 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team and hundreds of other active duty and Reserve forces.
"This was a prologue exercise for (the 155th's) exercise that they'll conduct at Fort Hood, Texas next summer and then, the culminating exercise will be (their) rotation at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California in 2017," Michel said.
The exercise also included hundreds of soldiers from Fort Hood, Texas.
