JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A Jones County woman has been arrested for allegedly taking meth and other drugs while being pregnant.
Twenty-one-year-old Alysa Tisdale was taken into custody after the Department of Human Services contacted the Jones County Sheriff's Department in regards to a baby being born with drugs in its system. Jones County authorities said that after the baby was delivered, doctors recognized that something was wrong and then tested it for drugs. The tests returned positive and air-lifted the baby to University Medical Center in Jackson.
Jones County Sheriff Alex Hodge said that Tisdale knew what she was doing and that it is a common problem that we see in the drug culture.
"She knowingly, willingly and intentionally used drugs of which is methamphetamine and amphetamine and opiates before, two days prior to her c-section," Hodge said, "As a result of that, this baby now has been in intensive care, critical care at University Medical Center in Jackson and is currently listed still in stable critical condition."
Tisdale was in court today charged with felony abuse and felony child neglect. Her bond was set at $40,000. If convicted, Tisdale could be looking at 20-years maximum in jail.
