Jury finds Jasper County man guilty of sexual battery, gratification of lust

JASPER COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Paulding District Attorney Daniel C. Jones announced that on Wednesday that a Jasper County 1st Judicial District trial  jury found Sam Hales, 56, of Paulding, guilty of sexual battery and gratification of lust after deliberating for only 48 minutes. 

The jury was composed of six women and six men while the racial make-up of the jury was all African-American, according to a news release.    

 "ADA Stephanie Breland-Wood and ADA Chris Hennis did an excellent job in trying the case," said Jones.

Jones further stated  that “sexual predators will continue to be prosecuted here in the 13th Circuit Court District by my office, and we will not relent until we have driven them out of our communities.”      

Hales was convicted of sexual battery and gratification of lust and will be sentenced by Judge Eddie H. Bowen on September 28 at 10:00 a.m.

The sentencing will be at the Jasper County Court House in Bay Springs.   

Jones stated in a press release that his office “prosecutes criminals without passion, prejudice, improper influence, political standing, financial standing, or regards to race” and it is his duty to “ensure that justice will be served with each and every case his office handles.”   

Jones represents the 13th Circuit Court District which includes Covington, Jasper, Simpson, and Smith counties.
