Road, Parking Lot Closures scheduled for Student Move-In Days August 14-15

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The following is a news release from The University of Southern Mississippi

Fall 2015 semester student move-in days at The University of Southern Mississippi’s Hattiesburg campus will be Friday, August 14 and Saturday, August 15, with the following areas to be closed as preparations are made to welcome students to their residence halls.

*East Memorial Drive will close Thursday, August 13 at 5 p.m., as will the Bolton Hall parking lot located behind the old Student Health Clinic facility. All vehicles in these areas must be moved by 6 a.m. Friday, August 14 or be subject to towing. This area will not reopen to regular traffic flow or parking until 5 p.m. Saturday, August 15.

*The Kennard-Washington Student Services building and old Freshman Quad parking lots will be open for regular parking both days. Move-in days for Mississippi, Hattiesburg and Hickman Halls will begin at 8 a.m. Friday, August 14 and Saturday, August 15.

*The parking lot in front of Wilber Hall (Panhellenic) will close Thursday, August 13 at 5 p.m. All vehicles in this lot must be moved by 6 a.m. Friday August 14 or be subject to towing. Move-in day for Wilber Hall will start at 8 a.m. and end at 2 p.m.

*The Bond Hall parking on Ray Guy Way will close at 5 p.m. Thursday, August 13. All vehicles in these areas must be moved by 6 a.m. on Friday, August 14 or be subject to towing. This area will be used for overflow unloading for move-in day at Century Park South and Lucky Day Citizenship Hall.

*The first two parking bays of Century Park North will close Friday, August 14 at 5 p.m. All vehicles in these areas must be moved by 6 a.m. Saturday, August 15 or be subject to towing. Move-in day for Century Park North will begin at 8 a.m. on the Saturday, August 15 and end at noon.

*On Wednesday, August 12 the first floor of the parking garage will close at 5 p.m. for cleaning. The first floor of the parking garage will be used for move-in day August 14. All vehicles parked on the first floor must be moved or be subject to towing. Move-in day for Century Park South will begin Friday, August 14 at 8 a.m. and end at noon.

    Eight schools in the Forrest County Public School District have been given the go-ahead to accept bids to build safe rooms on school campuses around the county. The rooms are designed to withstand high winds in the event of a tornado and can protect all of the students and staff at any of the schools to prevent loss of life due to a severe weather event.
