LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

The city of Laurel is calling on all residents to make smart and healthy lifestyle choices.
Mayor Johnny Magee said one of his goals as a mayor is to help Laurel become one of the healthiest and most active communities in the state.

On Tuesday, he along with the Mississippi Department of Health, are holding a forum inside the Train Depot. The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. and allows residents to give their ideas on how to make the city a healthier place to live and work.

“We're trying to start a discussion on healthy living in the city of Laurel,” Magee said. “We talk about childrens obesity, too many people smoking, so we want to start the conversation. We want people to begin to live healthier lives.”

The health forum is expected to last an hour. Magee said he plans to hold a meeting at least once a month on this initiative.
