JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - After being arrested a drivers' license checkpoint Sunday, Cory Houston, 38 of Laurel, made his initial court appearance Tuesday afternoon before the Jones County Justice Court Judge Billie Graham. Graham set Houston's bond at $10,000 for the charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
On Sunday, the Jones County Sheriff's Deputies were conducting a drivers' license checkpoint on Old Palestine Church Road when a vehicle came to the location.
As deputies approached, they noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to a news release issued by JCSD.
Houston was asked to exit the vehicle.
When deputies attempted to pat down Houston, he tried fleeing on foot, and was apprehended.
Once in custody it was discovered that Houston had several bags of a high grade of marijuana, packaged for distribution.
He was transported to the Jones County Adult Detention Center.
