Fundraiser for Hattiesburg fallen officer

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A fundraiser is underway to help the wife and children of slain Hattiesburg Police officer Benjamin Deen.

Community, family and friends of the fallen Hattiesburg Police officer are selling tickets in order to raise money to help the future needs of his family.

Items included are a Glock .40-caliber handgun and hand-crafted holster, a custom-engraved pocket knife, and an ammo canister.

These items will be given away to the winning ticket.

The gun is inscribed with the “Officer Benjamin Deen” on one side and “End of Watch” on the other. The knife is also inscribed with Deen's name, and also a verse from the bible, Matthew 5:9.

Betty Baggett, one of the fundraiser organizers, said that the idea was to help the family with any current needs they may have as well as future ones.

“I just love helping people and we are friends with the family and it’s been very tough for them," said Baggett. "We love them very much and just want to help them.” Baggett said.

The tickets will be sold at several locations in the Pinebelt:

  • Sunrise Trading Post in Petal
  • Oak Grove Plaza Package Store
  • Lamar County Sheriff’s Office
  • Jim Aust Allstate
  • Robbie’s Guns in Columbia
  • Happy Camper Service Center in Picayune
  • Little River Outdoors in Poplarville
  • Walmart on hwy. 98 on August 28, 29 & 30 (Fri-Sat-Sun)

The drawing for these items will be held on Labor Day, September 7.
