FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - An 18-wheeler's gas tank ruptured Wednesday afternoon near the Forrest-Perry county line and spilled nearly 100 gallons of fuel on Highway 98, according to Forrest County Emergency Management Director Glen Moore.
Moore said one lane of Hwy 98 westbound in that area is closed, and drivers should use caution and expect slower traffic for several hours.
Moore said the tank ruptured after the 18-wheeler hit an object, but the driver is safe.
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality advised cleanup crews to pour sand on the area and will do a review Thursday morning if more action is needed, according to Moore.
