CAMP SHELBY, MS (WDAM) -

During a brief press conference, Perry County Sheriff Jimmy Dale Smith said the sheriff's department, MDOT and the Mississippi Bureau Investigation are still investigating the shooting incident that happened earlier Tuesday near Camp Shelby. The FBI and the ATF have also been made aware of the situation.

Smith said they are now looking for one white male suspect driving a small-type maroon truck with black rims that sits low to the ground. Authorities are following leads at this time regarding vehicles that match the description.

When the shots were fired, Smith said only two soldiers were at the scene. The cause of the incident is still unknown, according to Smith.

Perry County deputies confirmed that shots were fired around 12:10 p.m. on a group of soldiers training in the area.

A vehicle matching the description of the two suspect's truck was found near New Augusta off Old Augusta Road.  Two men were questioned by MHP at The Perry County Sheriff's Department. After questioning, the two men were released and not charged.

If you have any information regarding the incident, contact the Perry County authorities at 601-964-8461.
