NEW AUGUSTA, MS (WDAM) - Two Mississippi National Guard soldiers were injured Saturday afternoon when the utility truck they were traveling in overturned on Highway 98.
The truck, a U.S. Army M1078 LMTV (Light Medium Tactical Vehicle) was part of a four-vehicle convoy carrying supplies to troops training in the field when the accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. in New Augusta.
Col. Jeffrey Van, commander of the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team, said only two soldiers were riding in the truck at the time of the wreck and both received minor injuries. They were taken by ambulance to Forrest General Hospital.
He said the driver reported that the brakes on the truck had locked, causing it to skid off the road and flip over.
No other military or civilian vehicles were involved.
Van said the injured soldiers are in Company B, of the 106th Battalion, which is part of the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team, with its headquarters in Tupelo.
That unit is currently taking part in Exportable Combat Training Capability Exercises at Camp Shelby.
