Second person charged in softball team embezzlement case

ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) - A second person has now been arrested and charged in an embezzlement case out of Jones County.

Stacey G. Bryant, 39 of Ellisville, was taken into custody on Monday and charged with conspiracy to commit embezzlement.

An investigation involving Steven McLeod, who was charged with embezzlement of funds from a softball team program was conducted by Jones County Sheriff's Investigators on July 20.

Further investigation uncovered evidence that Bryant had knowledge of the fraud, and had hands on involvement in carrying out the crime, according to a new release issued by the Jones County Sheriff's Department.

Bryant was McLeod's fiancé at the time of the suspected embezzlement, according to the release.

McLeod was accused of taking $4,950.00 collected from a softball team he had started. The funds were to be used for uniforms, equipment, and other fees. He allegedly used that money for personal gain, according to JCSD.

Bryant's bond was set for $5,000.00.

More charges are pending as the investigation continues.
