LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - The city of Laurel and Mississippi's Faith Based Coalition gathered today at the Cameron Center to open a new Homeowners and Financial Literacy Center.
The event began at 11 a.m. and people who showed up were given tips on how to deal with financial hardship. They were also given tips on how to avoid being scammed.
"They're several programs out there that help homeowners to decrease the likely hood of them foreclosing," said A. Shae Williams from Mississippi's Faith Based Coalition.
People who gave their information will be contacted this week and will be matched with programs that will be able to further assist them.
