Southern Pines hopes Quin's Day will mean increased cat adoptions

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Southern Pines Animal Shelter is hosting an annual cat adoption event Saturday that honors a Hattiesburg teenager who died in an auto accident two years ago.

"Quin's Day," will give approved adopters the opportunity to take home a cat or kitten, free of charge.

The shelter is waiving all usual adoption fees in memory of Quin Thomson, a 17-year-old student at Sacred Heart School, who was killed in 2013.

"Quin's family approached the shelter and let us know that Quin had really loved his cat, they were best friends, and that they wanted, in his memory, for other cats to have a chance to find their special person," said Ginny Sims, shelter manager.

Sims said they will also be accepting donations in Quin's memory to help sponsor the adoption of a cat or kitten.
