HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A Vietnam War documentary based on a book written by a University of Southern Mississippi history professor has been nominated for an Emmy Award.
The Film, "Brothers in War" aired on the National Geographic Channel in March of 2014.
It was nominated in the Outstanding Historical Programming-Long-Form category.
It was based on the book, "Boys of '67: Charlie Company's War in Vietnam," by Southern Miss distinguished professor of history Andrew Wiest.
Wiest also served as historical advisor for the documentary.
"I really thought I was lucky to have it made into a documentary," Wiest said. "And then when National Geographic Channel said they were nominating it, I was thinking, 'I've seen all the other documentaries that are out there, there's no way this will make it, I can't get that lucky.' But, it turns out we did, we're one of the top five documentaries in the field, so I'm hoping to go to New York and come home with a trophy," he said.
The Emmy Awards will be presented in September.
