HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Sidewalks are popping up all across the City of Hattiesburg, and one of those projects is the Midtown Project, which in part, makes the area more pedestrian friendly.
Forrest County Supervisor Chris Bowen (District 5) said Phase Two of that project should begin in the next six months on South 34th Avenue.
A sidewalk will stretch from Hardy Street, down South 34th to Beverly Lane, along the east side of the avenue.
"One day we'd like to reach down to Jamestown and beyond down to Lincoln Road, but for right now we're thrilled to be seeing what we'll be having in a very short order," Bowen said.
The county recently matched $30,000 with the city's engineering efforts, which also matches a portion by the Mississippi Department of Transportation. Each are stakeholders in this project.
The first phase of the sidewalk expansion was completed after sidewalks were placed on Arlington Loop and South 37th Avenue.
