Two sentenced on federal drug charges

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

Two Laurel men were sentenced on federal drug charges.

Joe Porter Jr. and Joshua House both of Laurel were sentenced in the United States Federal Court in Hattiesburg on Monday.

The Laurel Narcotics Division arrested both individuals back in 2014 when agents executed multiple search warrants and recovered over 1 ½ lbs of methamphetamine.

Porter was sentenced for 11-1/2 years and House was sentenced for 10 years. 

 Porter was arrested at the time of these search warrants were executed and House was apprehended a few weeks later. 

This case was adopted by the D.E.A. and the two were indicted on federal charges.

Agents continued their investigation and were able to link these two individuals to another 1 ½ lbs of methamphetamine with the total amount being 3 pounds. 

Early release will be denied because of federal guidelines that each day sentenced is to be served.

    Southern Miss baseball will be missing four key contributors when the its season opens against Mississippi State on February 16. Hayden Roberts, Taylor Braley, Kirk McCarty and Dylan Burdeaux wrapped up their first minor league seasons in the fall. Roberts, a 34th round MLB draftee of the Colorado Rockies, struck out 45 batters in 21 games with the Grand Junction Rockies.
