Joe's Viewpoint: Brian Dozier

Joe Sciortino Joe Sciortino

Last Tuesday night, Brian Dozier, former Southern Miss star shortstop, hit a solo home run in an All-Star game. This makes Dozier just one of 16 players in major league history to hit a homer in his first All-Star game at bat. As we reported last week, the call came late for him to represent the American League and the Minnesota Twins second baseman did not disappoint his fans.

In fact, Brian Dozier was a regular name in sports here on WDAM when he played baseball at USM. There are several articles on our website chronicling his career. Having moved here two years ago, I asked others around the station about Mr. Dozier. While I heard about his accolades as shortstop, his being drafted by the Twins in 2009 and other impressive stats on his athletic performance; I also picked up on a recurring theme of what a truly nice guy he is.

I love it when good things happen to good people. And from what I have learned, Brian Dozier is good people. And it makes good sense. After all he is a Southern Miss alumnus and was born right here in Mississippi. Congratulations Mr. Dozier. We are proud to say we know you.

This is today’s viewpoint.
