Leadership Mississippi Class of 2016 applications open August 3

This is a news release from Mississippi Economic Council

The Leadership Mississippi application process for the Class of 2016 will open Monday, August 3 online at www.leadershipmississippi.org. Nominations will be accepted until Tuesday, September 1, and the application process will close on Monday, September 14, 2015.

Leadership Mississippi, an annual program of the Mississippi Economic Council conducted by the M.B. Swayze Foundation, is the second oldest statewide leadership program in the nation and is endowed through a generous contribution by the late J.C. and Annie Redd. Since its inception in 1974, Leadership Mississippi has graduated more than 1,100 alumni active in Mississippi business and politics.  Many of Mississippi’s top business executives have participated in Leadership Mississippi as a way to expand their networks. Many elected leaders, including a former governor, are graduates and recognize the value of the Leadership Mississippi experience.

Leadership Mississippi welcomes applicants who are corporate level leaders, executives, emerging leaders, community leaders and new-to-Mississippi leaders who are interested in learning more about Mississippi and the issues that impact our state.  Ideal candidates are those who are passionate not only about their communities but about Mississippi and its success.  Even if you have participated in your local leadership program, Leadership Mississippi offers an opportunity for you to expand your knowledge of how local and state issues impact community development.

Nomination Forms for the Class of 2016 may also be submitted on behalf of an interested party. Those interested in applying are not required to have a third party nomination, and  self-nominations are encouraged.

Applications will not be considered until Leadership Mississippi receives a fully completed application, two letters of recommendation, a $25 application fee, and a copy of the Employer Consent Form found on the Leadership Mississippi website.

A selection committee comprised of Leadership Mississippi alumni will carefully review all applications. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated history of:

  • Positions with a company or an organization which show a progression toward leadership or management.
  • Significant achievement or accomplishments in career or community service.
  • Status or position with company or organization.
  • Work experience or other experience indicative of involvement in one or more areas of business, community, civic or government service.
  • Additional consideration will be given to senior level leaders of organizations and graduates of local-based leadership programs.

Tuition for the Leadership Mississippi Program is $3,000, which  includes rooming and some meals during the Leadership Mississippi sessions.  Participants are responsible for transportation to and from each session.
