Alleged Jones County scam artist captured

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

On Saturday, Jones County Sheriff’s Deputies took a complaint from a female stating that Glen Terry West, 64, had hired her to work for his company, according to a news release issued by the Jones County Sheriff's Department. 

A victim stated that she was talked into purchasing a company vehicle, which she had been driving, and an ATV, also said to have been for company use. 

According to the release, she contacted the businesses where the vehicles were purchased and returned the property when she realized there was a scam. 

The victim had also been given a check for $1,500 for work done and travel expenses. When she attempted to cash the check, she was advised the account did not exist.  She tried contacting West by phone, but was unable. 

She then contacted a member of West’s family who told her West had a history of fraud, according to the release.

Jones County Sheriff’s Investigators issued a search for West on Tuesday, when he was found in Hattiesburg at 5:00 p.m.  

He was taken into custody and charged with two counts of Bad Check – Fraudulent Use Of, according to authorities. 

West will make his initial appearance at Justice Court on Wednesday 3:00 p.m.
