HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss outfielder Dylan Burdeaux, who is playing his summer baseball for the Ocean State (Kingstown, R.I.) Waves, was named the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) Player of the Week on Monday.
The award for Burdeaux marks the second consecutive week that a Waves and Southern Miss player has earned this accolade. Golden Eagle catcher Chuckie Robinson garnered this honor last week.
Burdeaux, from West Monroe, La., led the league with 13 hits last week in 28 at-bats, finishing with a .464 batting average over seven games. He shared the league lead in home runs with two while also driving in a league-high eight runs during that span. His six runs scored were one off the league lead, as well.
In 27 games this summer, Burdeaux holds a .303 batting average with 30 hits including three homers, four doubles and 12 runs scored, to go along with 16 runs batted in. He is one of three Golden Eagles that play for the Waves who will play in this Sunday’s NECBL All-Star game.
Teammates Tim Lynch and Robinson will also participate and start for the South squad in the 22nd NECBL All-Star game which is scheduled for Sunday, July 19th, at Goodall Park in Sanford, Maine. Festivities include the 60-Yard Dash, Home Run Derby, and the All-Star Game at 4:05 pm CT. All of the action from Sunday's All-Star events will be online on the NECBL Broadcast Network.
Newport Gulls right-hander Michael Mertz (Oklahoma State) earned the league's Pitcher of the Week award for the second time this season.
